Salem City Manager Linda Norris has told city councilors and staff that she intends to retire at the end of March, according to an announcement from the city.
Norris said she decided to retire after a successful, 35-year career working in the public sector. She has been Salem City Manager since 2008 and has worked in city administrations in Oregon and Colorado. Norris thanked Salem City Council for its leadership in guiding the city through the last recession.
Salem Mayor Anna Peterson praised Norris’ job performance.
“We are on sound financial footing and in a strong position to continue moving the city forward,” Peterson said. Norris has built a capable staff at city hall and she will be missed, the mayor said.
Salem City Council will begin searching for Norris’ successor as soon as possible. A council committee will be named this week, and will make recommendations to the full council on interim leadership and search timelines, Peterson said.
Norris said she will remain a Salem resident and hopes to travel in her retirement.
